The origins of Tantra and Tantric-like practices.
Although Tantric sexual techniques have been used in India for centuries, there were traces of the religious usage of sex and sexual synergy in many civilizations outside of India.
The ancient Romans and Greeks were very prevalent in this, something which can be evidenced through the study of some of their deities. Native American and African tribes also worshiped the rites of sex and revered it as a thing of beauty.
It seems that not until the Judeo-Christian movement had there been evidence of "enslavement" through the usage of societaly administered sexual morals and controls. The usage of sexual controls became highly prevalent in the Catholic Church.
By controlling sexual activity and confining it to a monogamous procreative environment, the church would insure the filling of their ranks with an exponentially growing supply of indoctrinated (from-birth-on) Catholics.
This was good for the Church for two predominant reasons: first, it provided the Church with a significant income seeing that each Catholic was "supposed" to donate 10% of his Net income to the church. And second, because the Church needed an increasing supply of "cannon fodder" to hold back the ever growing swell of Islam.
That was hundreds of years ago. These conditions no longer exist and environmentally speaking, the ranks of the human race are swelling beyond capacity.
